Power Distribution Systems

Here is how this works in practice. We give power distribution systems configured for a production's electrical load and set layout, sourced from Morocco's gear base around Ouarzazate and Casablanca and run by qualified Moroccan electricians who know the local systems. Our team works with the gaffer and best boy to size distro boxes, sub-distribution, feeder runs and cable protection, then carries out load calculations, phase balancing and safety verification.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. On the ground, morocco's mains supply is 220V/50Hz, so where a location gives grid power — the standing stages at Atlas Studios and CLA Studios in Ouarzazate, or buildings in Casablanca and Marrakech — we set up tie-ins. Many distribution packages also account for crews bringing gear built to other standards, so we have the adapters and rated connectors to bridge them safely.

Here is the short of it. The defining reality of power distribution in Morocco is the desert. A large share of shooting happens at remote exteriors. Ait Benhaddou, the Merzouga dunes, the Atlas Mountains — far from any mains, so distribution is fed fully by power packs, and we design feeder runs, sub-distro and cable routing for those locations from the ground up. Fine sand and dust are a constant threat to connectors and breaker panels, so distro is kept in sealed enclosures, raised off the ground and cleaned frequently. Cable ramps and protection guard against blown sand and crew traffic alike.

On the ground, Summer temperatures above 40°C affect cable ratings and gear derating. This our load calculations account for. All distribution work follows Moroccan electrical safety rules. Power kit hire from Moroccan vendors is billed in dirham (MAD) and counts toward the CCM 30% cash rebates on qualifying spend.
