Boom Microphones

Here is how this works in practice. We source boom microphone kits from Morocco's in-country audio rental pool around Casablanca and Ouarzazate, supplementing with pro mics flown in from Europe when a production calls for a specific model. Our team supplies shotgun and hypercardioid microphones, carbon-fibre boom poles, shock mounts and the full range of wind protection, all tested before they leave for the shoot.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. On the ground, Microphone choice is driven by the shooting environment: tight directional shotguns suit the reverberant stone of the Fes and Marrakech medinas and the standing sets at Atlas Studios, where off-axis rejection keeps reflections out of the dialogue, while exterior desert work near Merzouga and in the Atlas Mountains is a balance between reach and the constant battle with wind.

Here is how this works in practice. Wind and dust are the defining challenges for boom work in Morocco. The Atlantic coast at Essaouira is famously windy. Saharan sandstorms are a genuine planning factor, so we equip each boom kit with full blimp-and-windjammer systems and brief recordists on managing exposed setups. Fine desert dust means microphones, capsules and connectors live in sealed cases between takes, and cool desert nights bring condensation that we manage with acclimatised gear. Summer temperatures above 40°C in Ouarzazate and the Sahara mean gear is staged in shade.

Here is how the picture comes together. On the ground, Boom kits often pair with wireless transmitter setups whose frequency use is covered by the ANRT (Agence Nationale de Reglementation des Telecommunications), and we set up those allocations alongside the kit. All audio hire from Moroccan vendors is billed in dirham (MAD) and counts toward the CCM 30% cash rebates on qualifying spend.
